As a service to the literary community, James River Writers provides listings of organizations that offer writing classes and host writing groups. These listings are for informational purposes only. JRW strongly suggests checking with the sponsoring organization before enrolling in the class or workshop. Listings are updated on a quarterly basis. Please send listings to info@jamesriverwriters.com. Classes/workshops submitted for inclusion on this list must be open to the public.
Writing Groups, Classes and Workshops
Every semester, adult writing classes on a variety of topics are offered by the following organizations. Please check their websites for details:

Sign-up sheets for independent writing groups are available during James River Writers' events. By adding your name to the Writing Group Sign-Up Sheet, JRW will put you in contact with other writers seeking same. The Virginia Screenwriters' Forum meets monthly (except July, August and December) at Art Works in downtown Richmond. VSF brings screenwriters together and offers support and constructive feedback to member's scripts in progress. Throughout the years, member scripts have been made into movies and a PBS documentary and have been optioned by major production companies. Aspiring screenwriters are welcome. The Richmond Playwright's Forum meets on the second Monday of every month, 7:00-9:00 pm at the Barksdale Theatre Willow Lawn conference room. Members will share works in progress and discuss the play writing process. RPF is open to all interested persons, and welcomes your participation as voice actors or active listeners. The Hanover Writers Club meets on the third Saturday of each month at 10 am at the Mechanicsville Library. Meetings are geared to support members, encourage them to write, and help them improve their craft. For more information, visit the website at www.hanoverwriters.org.
